Chicago Stars FC News Release
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - The Chicago Red Stars finish off their first west-coast trip of the season Sunday when they take on FC Gold Pride at 7 pm (CT) in Santa Clara, Calif.
The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, beginning at 7 pm (CT), with the Red Stars' broadcast team of Dean Linke and Danielle Slaton calling the action.
The Red Stars (2-3-3, 9 pts.) earned their first point in over a month Wednesday with a 1-1 tie at Los Angeles. Forward Cristiane scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Ella Masar in the 88th minute. The tie snapped a three-match losing streak for Chicago, which included a 1-0 loss to FC Gold Pride on May 16.
FC Gold Pride (3-5-1, 10 pts.) will be without two starting defenders for the weekend match. University of Notre Dame product Carrie Dew will sit after earning two yellow cards in a May 31st match, while FC Gold Pride has lost Kandace Wilson for the season after she fractured her hip socket against Los Angeles on May 24.
The match will be played at Buck Shaw Stadium on the campus of Santa Clara University, where three Red Stars - defender Marian Dalmy and midfielders Chioma Igwe and Brittany Klein - played collegiately. Dalmy and Klein were both a part of the Broncos' 2004 NCAA Tournament team, although a torn ACL kept Dalmy from playing in the Women's College Cup.
Full game notes for the match are attached and also available for download on www.chicagoredstars.com.
