Chicago Red Stars Forward Christen Press Voted NWSL Player of the Month

CHICAGO (May 1, 2015) - Chicago Red Stars forward Christen Press was voted the National Women's Soccer League Player of the Month by the media for the month of April of the 2015 NWSL season.

Press, 26, scored four goals over two games and recorded an assist to help Chicago remain in the top three of the standings with a 1-0-1 record going into Week 4 of the 2015 NWSL season.

Press' four goals in two games has her as the league's current goal leader, with all of the strikes coming in just 180 minutes of action.

The U.S. international had two goals and an assist to teammate Jen Hoy in Chicago's home opener, leading the Red Stars to a 3-2 victory against Seattle Reign FC on April 18. Press' brace included the dramatic game-winner in second-half stoppage time. (Watch Highlights)

The Los Angeles, Calif., native scored twice again against Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Nadine Angerer, giving the Red Stars a 2-0 lead in the first half. While being unable to hold on to the lead in the second half, Chicago remained unbeaten with a score of 2-2. ( Watch Highlights)

Press is the first Chicago Red Stars player to be named National Women's Soccer League Player of the Month.

The Chicago Red Stars will return to action Saturday, May 2 at 6:00 p.m. ET against Sky Blue FC at Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill.

The National Women's Soccer League Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
