Chicago Stars FC News Release

Bridgeview, IL (February 5, 2009) The Chicago Red Stars will play a ten game home schedule consisting of five Sunday evening matches, four Saturday night games and one Wednesday night contest, General Manager Marcia McDermott announced Thursday. Highlighting the home schedule will be three nationally televised games on Fox Soccer Channel, which will include the historic home opener on April 19th, a Mother's Day match on May 10th, and the team's only visit from the Los Angeles Sol, featuring Brazilian sensation and three-time FIFA Player of the Year, Marta, on August 2nd.

"Today is an extremely exciting day for the Chicago Red Stars and all fans of Women's Professional Soccer," said McDermott. "With today's announcement of our 2009 schedule, Red Stars fans will begin to circle dates on their calendars that represent regional rivalries and compelling match ups and look with anticipation to our opening game and all the match days that follow."

The Red Stars' schedule will feature at least one home game in each of the five months of the season, ranging from April through August, and will include a visit from each of the six WPS teams at least one time. The Boston Breakers, FC Gold Pride, and Sky Blue FC will each visit Toyota Park twice.

The Red Stars open the season on the road against Saint Louis Athletica on Saturday, April 4th at Ralph Korte Stadium at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. Fans of both the Red Stars and the Chicago Fire will be happy to know that they can make the 269 mile road trip for the historic game and still be back at Toyota Park in time for the Fire's season opener the following afternoon.

Following a second road game at the Washington Freedom, the Red Stars play their historic home opener before a national television audience on April 19th against Sky Blue FC at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. This game will kick off a string of five consecutive home matches that could provide the Red Stars an early competitive advantage on their competition.

"We are delighted with our schedule, especially the first half of it," said Red Stars Head Coach Emma Hayes. "With five of our first seven games at home before all of our fans, we couldn't have asked for a more amicable start to the season."

The Red Stars turn road warriors following their May 23rd home game, as they play four consecutive away matches in June against the Los Angeles Sol, FC Gold Pride (Bay Area), the Washington Freedom, and Sky Blue FC.

The second half of the season culminates in two exciting matches in August. First, three-time FIFA Player of the Year, Marta and the Los Angeles Sol pay their only visit to Toyota Park on Sunday, August 2nd. This highly anticipated clash will be nationally televised on Fox Soccer Channel. Finally, the Red Stars wrap up the regular season where it all began, on the road, against regional rival Saint Louis Athletica.

Of the Red Stars ten home games, five will be played on Sundays, four on Saturdays, and one on a Wednesday night. The Saturday and Wednesday games will begin at 7:30 pm, while most of the Sunday matches will begin at 5 pm. These start times, while subject to change, were selected so as to not interfere with the youth soccer schedule.

The Illinois Women's Soccer League, whose Spring Season kicks offs simultaneously on April 19th, has made it possible for teams to reschedule their first games in order to attend the Red Stars home opener by extending each team an additional Game Change/Reschedule Request.

The Chicago Red Stars play their home games at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. Season tickets, starting at only $120 for 10 regular season games plus two bonus games, are on sale now. Call (866) WPS-2009 or log on to www.chicagoredstars.com to reserve your seats.
