HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Chicago Mustangs, proud members of the Major Arena Soccer League (www.MASLSoccer.com), beat the Cedar Rapids Rampage again, 9-7, on December 18th Chicago's first win over the Rampage, 14-4, was on December 4th, also in Cedar Rapids.
The Chicago Mustangs started the first quarter controlling possession with great foot work demonstrated by Efrain "Wilo" Martinez and Miguel Vaca. The Mustangs defense was also strong with multiple blocked shots and saves keeping Cedar Rapids off the board during a power play. At 10:52, "Wilo" finds the back of the net with the help of Miguel Vaca. At 14:23, "Wilo" scores his second goal of the game, again with an assist from Vaca. The quarter ends with the Mustangs up 2-0.
Scoring their first goals of the game, the Cedar Rapids Rampage came out with more energy for second quarter. The Rampage scored four goals with the first being scored at 2:39 by Elmo Neto, 4-2. The Chicago Mustangs regroup with a timeout and "Wilo" scores his third goal of the game with another assist by Miguel Vaca at 10:07. The quarter ends with Cedar Rapids in the lead, 4-3.
The Chicago Mustangs return from halftime strong scoring five goals, the first by Alexis Camarena with an assist by "Wilo" at 0:27. At 0:58, Camarena gets another one in the net with an assist by Ricardo Carvalho. "Wilo" gets two more powerplay goals at 3:48 and 4:38. With Luis Ortega's first goal of the game the Mustangs are in the lead, 8-4. Cedar Rapids gets their only goal of the quarter at 7:29 and the quarter ends with Chicago up 8-5.
The fourth quarter starts with a goal by the Rampage at 0:35, followed by good defensive work by Miguel Vaca and Alexis Camarena. At 6:01, "Wilo" scores his sixth goal of the game on a powerplay with an assist by Ricardo Carvalho, the Mustangs up 9-6. With 14:46 left to go in the game, the Rampage score a goal and the game ends 9-7.
