Chicago Fire's Julio Martinez Earns MLS Goal of the Week Nomination

CHICAGO, IL (May 18, 2010) - Chicago Fire Soccer Club defender Julio Martinez earned an MLS Goal of the Week nomination after scoring his first MLS career goal in the Fire's 2-2 draw on the road against the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, May 15.

Martinez scored after the Fire broke an early deadlock in the 14th minute. Logan Pause sprung Marco Pappa with a perfectly weighted through ball on the left side. The fleet Guatemalan took one touch and sent a cross into the six-yard box where a charging Martinez outpaced Wizards defender Roger Espinoza for the inside track and with a sliding effort powered the ball over the goal line and past Kansas City Wizards goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.

The Chicago Fire gear up for a busy stretch of matches with a mid-week clash against Paris Saint-Germain at TOYOTA PARK on Wednesday, May 19 at 7:00 PM to kick off the inaugural Chicago Sister Cities International Cup presented by Best Buy. Depending on the Fire's result against Les Parisiens, the club will face either Red Star Belgrade or Legia Warsaw who play the second match of the Wednesday double-header on Saturday at TOYOTA PARK.
