Last Wednesday, the Fire hosted Midwest Premier League side Chicago House AC in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament. In the third installment of the rare derby, the edge went to the Fire, who controlled the match and advanced to the Round of 32 with a 3-0 victory on home turf.

Highlighted by an opening tally from forward Kacper Przybylko and a brace from defender Kendall Burks, the Fire cruised to victory. With his brace, Burks recorded his first two goals as a member of the Chicago Fire first team since joining the Club in 2022, when he was selected in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft. Since then, the young defender has featured in nine regular season appearances and has featured prominently for Chicago Fire FC II, the MLS NEXT Pro side of the Club.

The victory also saw Homegrown forward Alex Monis and defender Alonso Aceves record their first career starts for the Fire first team, with defender Wyatt Omsberg also recording his first start of the season in the backline for Chicago Fire FC. Defender Federico Navarro also returned to the midfield last week, after having missed six-straight matches for the Fire with a left upper leg injury suffered in the team's opening match of the 2023 season against New York City FC on March 4.

Veteran goalkeeper Spencer Richey held it down in goal for the Fire, picking up two saves and the clean sheet in his third U.S. Open Cup appearance. Richey also wore the captain's armband for the Club in the 3-0 victory.

FIRE REMAIN UNDEFEATED AT HOME

Chicago Fire FC extended its undefeated streak at Soldier Field to six matches last weekend.

Last Saturday, the Fire drew 1-1 against the New York Red Bulls. Highlighted by the 143rd career goal by veteran striker Kei Kamara, the Fire found a way to extend their unbeaten streak on home field. A beautiful ball curled ingo the 18-yard box by Souquet was headed into the goal by Kamara. So far this season, Kamara leads the Fire with four goals, scoring 0.73 goals per 90 minutes.

Additionally, his 143rd career goal leaves him only two markers away from tying U.S. Men's National Team legend Landon Donovan for second all-time in regular season goals. With the draw, the Fire's 1-0-5 record at Soldier Field gives them their longest undefeated streak at home to start a season since the 2017 campaign.

CHICAGO FIRE FC IS HEADING DOWN TO NASHVILLE!

Chicago Fire FC (2-2-5, 11 points) will head to the Music City and take on Nashville SC (4-3-3, 15 points) at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 6. With the Fire aiming to get their third win of the season, the match will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and transmitted locally in English on 890 WLS-AM and in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM.

Saturday's match will be just the fourth time the two sides have met since Nashville joined Major League Soccer in 2017. Saturday's match marks the first time the two sides meet this season before Nashville heads to the Windy City later this season on Saturday, July 8. Out of the four matches Chicago has played against Nashville SC, three have come on the road.

Saturday's match will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2021. Two seasons ago, the Fire went 0-1-1 against Nashville, including a 0-0 draw on Sept. 26, 2021, at Soldier Field. Chicago heads down to Tennessee searching for their first win against Nashville in franchise history. Since Nashville's arrival to Major League Soccer, only four Fire players have appeared in every match between the two sides, including Fabian Herbers, Mauricio Pineda, Gastón Giménez, and Miguel Navarro. Additionally, Chicago will see a familiar face in veteran midfielder Dax McCarty, who recorded 86 appearances in a Fire uniform from 2017-2019.

So far this season, Nashville has earned favorable results, with the Tennessee side currently sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference heading into Saturday's match. Saturday's contest will conclude a four-game homestand for Nashville, who has produced two wins and a draw through the first three matches. In their most recent contest, Nashville defeated Atlanta United FC 3-1, led by a pair of goals from winger Fafà Picault and forward Teal Bunbury. Midfielder Jacob Shaffelburg rounded out the victory with a goal in stoppage time to give Nashville three points in the table.

CARLOS TERAN GETS EXTENDED!

Chicago Fire FC announced on Saturday that center back Carlos Teran has signed a new contract with the Fire. The deal keeps the Colombian defender in the Windy City until 2027.

Terán joined the Chicago Fire during the 2020 MLS season. With COVID-19 delaying his entry into the United States, Terán featured in just two matches during his first season, making his Chicago Fire debut on Oct. 28, 2020, in the 78th minute of the team's match against the Philadelphia Union.

Since then, the defender has played in 43 matches (38 starts) and has scored three times for the Fire as a defender. Most recently, Terán was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 5 after the game against Inter Miami FC, where he scored his first goal of the 2023 season and led all field players with eight defensive actions!

Congratulations on your new deal, Carlos!
