Chicago Fire FC News Release
The Chicago Fire began its 2008 preseason with two scrimmages over the weekend against the U.S. U-17 Men's National Team and the University of South Florida at the IMG Academies facility in Bradenton, Fla. The Fire played varied lineups in three separate 30-minute intervals for both games.
The Chicago Fire kicked off its 2008 campaign with a 3-1 win over the U-17's on Saturday. The Fire came back to win 3-1 after going a down after just the first minute of play. A ball out of the back from Fire defender Daniel Woolard in the 74th minute fell right to forward Floyd Franks, and the forward made no mistake with a strong finish to knot the game at 1-1. Rookie Plotkin's service from the left corner in the 79th minute connected with the head of rookie forward Patrick Nyarko, who redirected it into the back of the net from six yards out to give the "Men in Red" a 2-1 advantage. Nyarko once again found net, tallying the game's final goal with an insurance tally in the 89th minute.
The "Men in Red" took a 2-1 win against the University of South Florida on Sunday, with the team wearing its traditional all-red kits. After going down a goal in the 48th minute, a headed goal from Fire forward Floyd Franks (49') and rookie midfielder Zach Pope's long-ranged blast into the upper right corner (80') secured the 2-1 victory.
