Chicago Fire FC II News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC II today announced that the Club has signed midfielder Luka Prpa (purr-PAH) to an MLS NEXT Pro contract through the 2023 season. Financial details were not disclosed.
"Luka is a player who brings professional experience to our team" said Chicago Fire FC II General Manager Alex Boler, "He is from the Midwest, having grown up just north of the border in Wisconsin. He can play multiple positions in the midfield and is a very skilled, left-footed player."
Prpa, 24, joins Chicago Fire FC II after having spent the prior season with USL Championship side Hartford Athletic. In 55 appearances for the USL side, he tallied five goals and an assist. Before Hartford, Prpa was selected 34th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by the Houston Dynamo. While he never appeared for the Dynamo, he made his professional debut shortly afterward with Rio Grande Valley FC, the former USL Championship affiliate for the Dynamo.
"Luka is a strong, attack-minded central midfielder who is very good at playing between the lines and in traffic," said Chicago Fire FC II Head Coach Ludovic Taillandier, "As we look to improve in the attack, he is someone who will help get us into the final third, and his experience is also something that we're going to count on."
At the collegiate level, Prpa played in the NCAA Division I with Marquette University. During his time in Milwaukee, Wisc., Prpa was the 2016 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and earned All-Conference First Team honors in 2018. In 66 total appearances for the Golden Eagles, Prpa tallied 18 goals and 21 assists in his four-year career.
