Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has acquired defender Chase Gasper from Houston Dynamo FC. In exchange, the Dynamo will receive the Fire's third-round pick of the 2026 MLS SuperDraft. Gasper is under contract with Chicago through the 2025 season.
"We're pleased to welcome Chase to the Club as we continue to prepare for the upcoming season," said Chicago Fire FC Sporting Director Georg Heitz. "Chase is a talented player who will provide depth and competition to our backline."
Gasper comes to the Fire with 85 regular season appearances (71 starts) in MLS play and five career starts in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Gasper played the 2023 season with the Houston Dynamo, where he made five appearances (three starts) as the team advanced to the Western Conference Finals. Gasper was drafted by Minnesota United FC with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He made his MLS debut as a rookie in June 2019 and finished the season with 15 appearances (14 starts) for the Loons.
After solidifying a spot in Minnesota's backline, the Alexandria, Va., native helped lead the team to three straight appearances in the postseason (2019-21). Gasper played a career-high 30 matches (30 starts) for Minnesota in 2021 before being traded to the LA Galaxy for $450,000 in General Allocation Money and additional performance-based metrics in 2022.
Prior to beginning his professional career, Gasper played collegiately at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 2014-2016 before transferring to the University of Maryland. He was a member of the Terps squad that defeated Akron University 1-0 to claim the 2018 NCAA Men's College Cup title. Gasper helped the Maryland defense secure 13 shutouts during that 2018 championship season.
At the international level, Gasper earned his first senior cap with the U.S. Men's National Team in a 1-0 win against Costa Rica on Feb. 1, 2020, when he came on as a substitute in the 77th minute. He has also represented the USMNT at the U-18 and U-20 age levels.
