Chicago Bandits News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits have acquired RHP Nicole Newman from the Aussie Peppers in exchange for Chicago's third round pick in the 2021 NPF Draft.

Newman was selected in the third round of the 2019 NPF Draft out of Drake University. The former Bulldog excelled in her collegiate tenure, throwing 787.2 innings and 1223 strikeouts, good for a career ERA of 1.72. She ended her career as the most decorated pitcher in Drake history.

She was the first ever First Team All-American in team history and was just the second MVC player to be selected the MVC Pitcher of the Year three times.

"We're excited to add Nicole to the circle this summer," Bandits AGM Jourdan Skirha said. "She's a great asset with a lot of untapped potential and we can't wait to see how she can shine in Chicago."

The Madison, Wis. native had nine appearances in her first professional season, posting 28 Ks and a 4.25 ERA.

"I am excited for this new opportunity and to be a part of the Chicago Bandits family," Newman said in a statement. "The Bandits are a top notch organization and continue to grow the game, especially in the Midwest. I love competing with and against the best so I am looking forward to what this summer holds for professional softball."

Newman will join the Bandits as they make their return to Parkway Bank Sports Complex on June 10, 2020 for their home opener against the California Commotion. The complete schedule for 2020 Bandits home games will be released later this month. All tickets will be on sale beginning Friday, February 14th at 10 AM.
