Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits have agreed to terms with Abby Ramirez on a one-year contract extension for the 2020 NPF season, team officials announced Thursday afternoon.
"We are super excited to have Abby back on board. She is a hometown hero who gives back to the game every day by working with the youth in the Chicagoland area year round," AGM Jourdan Skirha said. "Kids in her presence feel how dedicated she is to this game and they feel that emotional connection to her that we want all of our players to emulate.
"Abby is a role model, a total student of the game, and I am excited to see her role as a leader in our infield."
The Chicago native continued to shine in her third season with the Bandits, ending the season with a .352 batting average, good for the third best average on the team. Ramirez's efforts didn't stop at the plate, posting 14 double plays and 38 putouts, ending the season with a .989 fielding
percentage.
"The Chicago Bandits are such a special organization to be a part of," Ramirez said in a statement. "The team, coaches, staff, and front office have become a second family to me, and I'm so excited to be back for another season representing my hometown."
Ramirez put together a strong campaign in 2018 and posted a .340 batting average across 41 games. The Chicago native matched her 17-hit total from her rookie season and maintained an impressive .377 on-base percentage.
During the off-season, Ramirez stays close to home to put those skills to work with the Bandit Academy, a learning opportunity for players, coaches, and teams to continue the positive development, growth, and advancement of fastpitch softball.
Ramirez will take the field with the Bandits in their home opener on June 10 as they start their campaign for another successful season. The full schedule of home series events will be announced later this month, with tickets available for purchase on Feb 14.
