July 12, 2006 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Chicago Machine News Release

Today, the Chicago Machine announces three player acquisitions. Chicago traded a 2007 2nd Round Supplemental Draft Pick for midfielder Brad Heritage from the San Francisco Dragons and also participated in a three-team trade with the Baltimore Bayhawks and the Long Island Lizards to acquire defenseman Jake Deane from Long Island. Recently, the Chicago Machine also claimed midfielder Chris Keating from the Major League Lacrosse Player Pool.

"In Brad Heritage, we're acquiring a midfielder with very good size and speed who has roots in Chicago," said Finneran. "Every move we make is to help our team now and in the future. We are looking for guys who want to be a part of the Chicago community because we've learned the hard way that not having enough Chicago guys means we can't practice effectively."

Brad Heritage was a co-captain of the 2006 Dartmouth lacrosse team and was drafted by San Francisco in the 2006 MLL Collegiate Draft. In the 2006 season at Dartmouth, Heritage scored 32 goals and had 20 assists.

In the three-team trade, the Baltimore Bayhawks traded defenseman Mike Howley for a 2007 3rd Round Collegiate Draft Pick (from Chicago) and a 2007 5th Round Collegiate Draft Pick (from Long Island). The Chicago Machine traded goalie Nick Murtha, a 2007 3rd Round Collegiate Draft Pick, and a 2007 5th Round Collegiate Draft Pick for defenseman Jake Deane. The Long Island Lizards traded defenseman Jake Deane and a 2007 5th Round Collegiate Draft Pick for defenseman Mike Howley, goalie Nick Murtha, and a 2007 5th Round Collegiate Draft Pick (from Chicago).

"We're excited to bring Jake Deane to Chicago. He gives us a backup face-off man to Doug Shanahan, a wing middy and midfield defensemen all in one," stated Machine Head Coach Kevin Finneran. "His energy and speed will be welcomed right away."

Jake Deane played for the University of Massachusetts lacrosse team where he played in the NCAA Championship Game this past season against the University of Virginia and was drafted by the Long Island Lizards in the 2006 MLL Collegiate Draft. Deane was a senior captain for the UMass team and dominated the field as a long stick defensive midfielder and primary face-off man. His face-off percentage was ranked 5th in the nation at 61.5 (233-379).

Chris Keating joins the Chicago Machine after a successful college lacrosse career at Roanoke College. In 2006, Keating was named the USILA Division III men's lacrosse Player of the Year, the national Midfielder of the Year, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and the Virginia Small College Player of the Year. Keating is the Roanoke College lacrosse team's all-time leading scorer as a midfielder and achieved honors as a two-time All-American and three-time First Team All-ODAC selection. In the 2006 collegiate season, Keating scored 34 goals and had 31 assists for the Maroons.

The Chicago Machine's next game is on Saturday, July 22nd against the Denver Outlaws at Invesco Field. The next Machine home game at Benedictine University will be held on Saturday, July 29th. Face-off begins at 2:00PM.
