Cheremta Scores Twice Including Overtime Winner to Beat Des Moines 3-2

Mark Cheremeta scored his second of the night 1:50 in to overtime to give Dubuque their second overtime win of the season and a victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers, 3-2, on Saturday night. Dubuque secured four points on the weekend against the top two home teams in the West as they moved to 12-2-1 this season.
-Cheremta broke out of a six-game goalless drought in a big way. His first of the game gave Dubuque a 2-0 lead and his second was a snipe on the power play to win the game in overtime. Cheremeta scored goals five and six on the season.
-Robert Cronin started the scoring for Dubuque with his first USHL goal and first point. Cronin was awarded with second line minutes after Ryan Beck was unable to go due to injury and it paid dividends early.
-This game mirrored the first game against Des Moines in many ways as the Saints started strong and opened a two-goal lead. Des Moines methodically clawed back to tie it in the third period and then pushed the pace for the final 20 minutes.
-The penalty kills were dominant all night long as the Saints were a perfect four for four on the night and Des Moines was five for six. However, the one goal that Des Moines let in proved to be the costliest as it was the overtime winner.
-Alex Lafferiere snapped a long scoring drought. The Bucs leading scorer had only one point in the last eight games coming into the contest against Dubuque. He kick-started things for Des Moines, scoring their opening goal of the game.
-Aidan McCarthy was stellar in net, stopping 21 shots for his third win of the season. McCarthy allowed two goals or less for the third game in a row.
-Dubuque downed the top two teams in the league at home with the wins over Waterloo and Des Moines. The Saints have now won eight of ten against the Western Conference this season.
-The league's top power play, operating at 30% coming in to the game, waited until the perfect moment to strike. Cheremeta blasted a slap shot over the shoulder of Cameron Rowe, who was great all night, to end things for Dubuque.
-The Saints will be be tested once again next weekend as they take on Des Moines again before traveling to Fargo and then Sioux Falls on the road to close out November.
