Charlotte Checkers News Release

(Charlotte, NC - Friday, August 22, 2003) The Charlotte Checkers announce today that Athletic Trainer Teri LaSalle has resigned her position with the Checkers to take the same position with the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League. Lowell is the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes. The announcement is made today by Checkers Head Coach / General Manger Don MacAdam. LaSalle's promotion marks the second consecutive season a Checkers trainer has advanved to the AHL. Last summer Checkers trainer Mike Derecola took the same p! osition with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL.

"We're very excited for Teri," quoted MacAdam. "The ECHL is a developmental league and her promotion is a good reflection of our hockey operations department. We've seen 10-15 players in each of our last three seasons get playing time in the AHL, an assistant coach advance to the AHL as an assistant coach, an assistance coach get a head coaching job in the Western Hockey League, and now a second athletic trainer advancing to a higher league."

"It's a great feeling and a great opportunity for me," said LaSalle. "I tried to work hard and be a professional, and I'm happy to see that my commitment has led to this. My experience in Charlotte was very positive, and the Checkers are a top-notch organization. I really enjoyed working with the Scheers, Don MacAdam, Derek Wilkinson and Tom Severance."

LaSalle is believed to be the first-ever female athletic trainer in the 67 year history of the American Hockey League. She was one of only a few female trainers to ever work in the ECHL. She is a certified athletic trainer, licensed physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist. LaSalle was responsible for injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation with the Checkers.

LaSalle joined the Checkers last season after spending the 2001-2002 season with the ECHL's Jackson Bandits. Prior to Jackson, she spent five years with the Columbus Cottonmouths who played in the Central Hockey League from 1996-2001. LaSalle was with the Cottonmouths club when they won the Levins Cup in 1998.

A native of Hopewell Junction, NY, LaSalle is a graduate of Duke University with a B.A. Degree in Human Development and a M.S. Degree in Physical Therapy. She has had the privilege of working alon! gside Dr. Jack Hughston at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA. She is a proud member of the Hughston Society dedicated to orthopedics, research, education and sports medicine. At the 2001 Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society Meeting, LaSalle gave a lecture on Medical Knee Ligament Injuries in Hockey Players. She was also invited to assist with the Hartford Wolf Pack's 2002 preseason training camp.

The Checkers will begin their 11th season in the ECHL with the regular season and home opener Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. hosting the Gwinnett (GA) Gladiators at Cricket Arena.

Season tickets for the 2003-04 season are now on sale. Season ticket prices start as low as $245.00. Mini-plans and group discounts are also available. Call the Checkers office at (704) 342-4423 for further information.
