OKC Energy FC News Release
Jaime Chavez and Arun Basuljevic scored their first goals of the season, as Energy FC defeated Rio Grande Valley FC Toros 2-1 Sunday evening at Taft Stadium.
The Greens took the lead in the 26th minute when Villyan Bijev beat his defender down the left to create a yard of space. From there, he picked out Jaime Chavez who volleyed home from six yards for his first goal of the season.
The lead was short-lived, however, as RGV equalized five minutes later with a similar goal to OKC's opener. Christian Sorto was able to get to the end line and cross from the left to find a waiting Elvis Amoh, who volleyed into the open net.
A back and forth second half was settled in the 78th minute. Hiroki Kurimoto's blocked effort fell to Arun Basuljevic, who caught the bouncing ball on the volley to drove it low and into the corner, beating RGV goalkeeper Tyler Deric. The goal was Basuljevic's first as an Energy FC player.
Energy FC moves up to 26 points and up to 5th place in the Central Division.
The Greens are on the road for the next two games with trips to Memphis 901 FC and Sporting Kansas City II on September 1 and 4. They return home to Taft Stadium on Sunday, September 12 at 5 p.m. CT against Louisville City FC. Tickets are available at energyfc.com/september12.
