Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, California - Republic FC fell 3-1 to San Diego Loyal SC on Saturday night, ending the Indomitable Club's streak of seven matches without a loss.
San Diego would pull ahead early, with their first score in the third minute. An unlucky bounce for Republic FC left defender Oliver Larrez with just one man to beat, before his shot deflected over the head of goalkeeper Tomas Gomez.
Loyal SC would widen their advantage before the end of the half. Augustine Williams, acquired on loan this week from LA Galaxy, would net two scores in the 23rd and 29th minutes to put the visitors up 3-0 before the half hour mark.
Despite San Diego leading for most of the night, Republic FC would knock on the door continuously. The Boys in Old Glory Red outshot Landon Donovan's men 23-9 for the evening. Cam Iwasa led the way for the Indomitable Club, putting up six shots and bagging Sacramento's lone score on a 39th minute penalty, his fourth of the season.
Jaime Villarreal continued to make an impact for Republic FC in his third game back from injury. The midfielder finished with two shots and completed 82 percent of his passes for the third straight contest. Since Villarreal's return to the starting lineup against Las Vegas on August 14, Mark Briggs men have held the edge in possession over each of their opponents.
New acquisition Emil Cuellomade his Sacramento debut in the loss, entering at half time for Darek Formella and logging two shots. Accompanying Cuello in making his debut for the Indomitable Club was academy product Amjot Narang, who made his first professional appearance. Narang adds his name to the list of Academy products who have logged over 2,000 minutes and appeared in all but two matches this season.
The Indomitable club will resume action this coming Wednesday, September 1 when they travel south to take on LA Galaxy II. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Dignity Health Sports Park. The match will be broadcast live on KQCA My58, Estrella TV Sacramento, and ESPN+.
