Carolina Mudcats News Release

Chattanooga, TN --- Eddy Perez homered and drove in three runs to lead Chattanooga past Carolina 4-2 at AT&T Field on Tuesday night.

Perez hit a one-strike pitch from starter Tom Cochran (L, 1-1) over the right-centerfield wall for a two-run homer in the second as the Lookouts (4-5) assumed a 2-1 lead.

Carolina was held without a hit until the sixth inning when Michael Griffin doubled off of the left field wall to begin the inning. Later in the inning, Zack Cozart delivered a sacrifice fly to score Griffin to tie the game 2-2. Alberto Bastardo, making just his second career Double-A start at the age of 25, issued five walks over 5 1/3 innings, but only the double to Griffin.

Chattanooga scored twice in the sixth, Cochran's last inning. Ramon Nivar singled in front of a charging Sean Henry in centerfield, but advanced to third as the ball carried past Henry. Josh Bell hit an off-field sacrifice fly to score Nivar with the tie-breaking run. The Lookouts added another run in the frame after three consecutive hits plated Andrew Lambo for a 4-2 lead.

Cochran worked 5 1/3 innings, permitting seven hits and four earned runs. Ruben Medina and Ramon Geronimo combined for 2 2/3 innings of no-hit relief.

Carolina took a 1-0 lead without the benefit of a hit in the second inning, capitalizing on a pair of walks from Bastardo, along with a balk and a pair of force-out grounders. The Mudcats managed five hits in the game, with Griffin and Eric Eymann each doubling.

Lee Tabor will make a spot start for the Mudcats Wednesday morning at 11:15 AM ET against James Adkins in the fourth game of a six-game series.
