Charlotte team has new feel, new funk, new Krunk

June 21, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Charlotte Krunk News Release

Charlotte, NC. S. Duane Hughes knows the game, maybe too well. He is a hustler. No, not Hustla, but a bonafide work hard, out work the next man, be true to the game hustler. Mind you, Hughes has some HUSTLA in him and it will serve him well in Charlotte, a town that is fickle about its basketball and more so about who it supports financially to represent him. But Hughes has connections, history and a desire to succeed and Charlotte should embrace him.

As is the case in some other ABA cities, new owners, new plahyers, new name and new philosophy. The Carolina Thunder has come and gone. The new team, the new attitude, the new plan...Krunk. New, hip, strong, funky and on top. General Manager Brian Rowsom was retained and Jaye Floyd was named Head Coach, and the new era of ABA basketball in the Carolinas has begun. And the new plan follows the name, a blend of hip hop and street smarts with an eye towards blending two previous forms of entertainment to make one kick butt product. Quality basketball and hip hop music events in the same building under one ticket price and one name. Krunk entertainment.

Hughes has a music background and a rolodex full of contacts and plans. His basketball knowledge is only exceeded by his plans to include both basketball and hip hop for the fans of Charlotte. He has the freedoms that the Charlotte Bobcats don't in that he can provide quality entertainment and keep the prices down in order to reach the masses. No high salaries or pre-paid suites here, just a nice venue at affordable prices with great seats, great access to the game and the talent, and a deep desire and drive to make it work.

Hughes understands that no matter how successful the act brought in to the arena, the game itself is the thing. Rowsom understands the ABA game and what needs to be done to be successful. Hughes speaks glowingly of Rowsom and what's in store this season. The words success and competent are thrown about while hustle is implied, continually and consistently.

Charlotte is the gut of Tobacco Road and all of its basketball talent and history. If Hughes and Rowsom can garner the talent and assemble a group that wants to represent that heritage as it should, the post game events should be celebrations. If Hughes hustles like it appears that he will, Krunk will be the mood in Charlotte. Let's get Krunk. For more information, email flyspy60@yahoo.com or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
