Charlotte FC News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte FC today announced the Club has signed Jordy Alcívar from Ecuadorian side LDU Quito to a four-year contract with an additional option year. The move is pending a medical, and receipt of a P-1 visa and ITC.
The 22-year-old central midfielder will occupy an international roster slot on the Club's inaugural roster.
Alcívar has played 83 times for his boyhood club LDU Quito, scoring five goals and contributing six assists. He started all six matches in LDU's Copa Libertadores campaign this season and scored a brace during second leg of the club's Round of 16 Copa Sudamericana fixture against Gremio to put his side through on aggregate against the Brazilians.
"We're delighted to welcome Jordy to Charlotte FC as he becomes the 8th player in Club history. He brings balance to our midfield and can control the game with and without the ball at his feet," said Charlotte FC Sporting Director, Zoran Krneta. "He comes from a well-respected league in South America and is very experienced for a player of his age. In Jordy, we add another player to our roster who has experience in big moments for club and country, and we look forward to getting him to Charlotte for preseason in January."
Alcívar was key to Ecuador's youth national team success over the course of the 2019 season. The midfielder made four appearances for the title winning U-20s at the South American Championships which qualified Ecuador to the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup later that summer.
A third-place finish was on the cards for Ecuador in that competition, the country's best finish at a U-20 World Cup. Alcívar played six matches and put in a 112 minute shift in the third-place playoff against Italy, a 1-0 win for Ecuador.
Alcívar will finish the season with LDU Quito, which runs into December, and join Charlotte FC for preseason preparations in January.
Additionally, Charlotte FC traded $100,000 General Allocation Money (GAM) to FC Cincinnati in exchange for Alcívar's Discovery Priority. The trade will be executed upon the MLS trade window reopening.
