Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The defending American Conference Champion Dayton Bombers extended their winless streak to two games with a tough weekday loss to South division opponent Charlotte Checkers in front of 2,915 at the Nutter Center on Tuesday night.

Facing the Checkers for the first time this season, the visitors wasted little time pressuring the Bombers on both ends of the ice. Dayton responded with ten shots in the period (Charlotte also managed 10), but found themselves behind 1-0 at the end of one period mark with Bruce Graham scoring on a Bombers defensive lapse at 13:16.

Defense for Charlotte would be the story in the second period as the blue liners foiled several loose-puck scrambles in front of goaltender Chris Holt. Dayton saw the Checkers lead extend to two at the 11:10 mark of the period with a power play goal by Mike Bayrack giving Charlotte the 2-0 lead after forty minutes. Dayton led in shots on goal for the period 12-7 for a two-period total of 22-17 Dayton.

The third period saw a quick Charlotte goal, just 1:59 in from Chris Capraro, to take an early 3-0 lead. Mustering a little resurgence, Dayton's Alex Greig answered with his first goal of the season at the 2:17 mark, assisted by All-Star Matt Beadoin breaking the Charlotte shutout and bringing the score to 3-1. Unfortunately, none of the Bombers were able to follow suit, and with just 1:59 left in regulation, Charlotte's Mark Lee caught the Bombers defense off guard and scored his fifth goal of the season to end the game 4-1. Dayton out shot Charlotte 11-7 in the third for a game total of 33-24 Bombers.

With the loss, Dayton's record now stands at 19-16-7 for 45 points and sole possession of fourth place in the North Division. Dayton now sets its sights on the rematch with the Checkers on Friday night at 7pm. Tickets are still available by calling 775-4747, and fans can tune into the broadcast via b2 Networks at echl.com, daytonbombers.com and b2livetv.com with JT Szabo on the call.
