Charlotte plated three ninth inning runs, knocking off the Tides 5-2 in front of 6,360 fans at Harbor Park Saturday night.

The Knights took the lead off of Willie Eyre (0-1), as Conor Jackson led off the inning with a single and scored when Dan Johnson tripled over the head of center fielder Jai Miller. Two outs later, Ozzie Martinez singled home two runs with a line drive to center, extending the lead to 5-2.

Norfolk loaded the bases against Charlotte reliever Leyson Septimo (1-0) in the ninth, but the 26-year-old left-hander induced a game-ending groundout by Xavier Avery, ending the Tides two-game winning streak.

Tides starter Steve Johnson turned in his second straight strong start, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings of work. Johnson struck out seven while walking just one, yielding RBI singles to Jordan Danks in the second and Dan Johnson in the fourth.

Though two starts, Johnson has a 2.45 ERA with 12 strikeouts and two walks in 11.0 innings pitched.

Norfolk picked up its two runs on RBI doubles, the first by Ryan Adams in the third and the second by Josh Bell in the sixth.

The Tides will wrap up their homestand on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch against the Knights set for 1:15. Jason Berken (0-0, 0.00) will take the hill for Norfolk against left-hander Eric Stults (1-0, 0.00).
