Charleston Battery travels to Atlanta for July 4 fixture

Charleston, SC. The USL First Division Charleston Battery heads to Atlanta Wednesday for a 7:55PM match versus the Atlanta Silverbacks (REAL 1340 AM). The game is the third of four between the teams this year; the Battery leads the series 2-0 with wins at Blackbaud Stadium on May 26 (2-0) and June 22 (2-1).

Charleston's last game was a 1-1 tie with the league-leading Vancouver Whitecaps. The 'Caps scored first through Joey Gjertsen but the Battery fought back and tied the game via a Stephen Armstrong free-kick in the second half.

Charleston (5-5-4), 19 points is currently in 6th position in the USL First Division.

Atlanta (4-5-4), 16 points, 8th position, defeated the Rochester Raging Rhinos 2-0 in their last league fixture in a game played at PaeTek Park in Rochester (NY). Forward Dan Antoniuk and defender John Queeley scored the goals for Atlanta.

Battery home Saturday - T-shirt night presented by Saturn

The Battery returns to Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday night for a game versus the Puerto Rico Islanders ($8 - $15, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com); gates open at 6:30PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM. It's T-Shirt Giveaway night presented by Saturn with a free Charleston Battery T-Shirt for the first 500 children through the turnstiles.

Battery to face MLS champs in US Open Cup

The USL First Division Charleston Battery will face current Major League Soccer champions, the Houston Dynamo in the third round of the US Open Cup. The game will be played at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island next Tuesday, July 10; gates open at 6:30 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM ($10 - $18, 971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com).
