The Canton Charge defeated the Austin Toros, 98-90, at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Tuesday night. The fifth-straight home win improves Canton's mark 11-2 at the Civic Center and 18-10 overall, while Austin dropped to 11-16.
After a back and forth start to the game that featured nine lead changes and two ties, the Charge offense began to heat up. Canton hit their final seven field goal attempts overall and finished the first on a 10-2 run to go up 28-20. Kevin Jones netted 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the opening stanza.
The Charge held an advantage for the entire second quarter and by as many as 13 points. The Toros were limited to 8-of-22 shooting as a team (36%) in the second, but hung around with seven offensive rebounds that resulted in 10 second chance points. Canton found themselves in front at the intermission, 52-39.
Canton's advantage increased to as many as 23 while they led for the complete duration of the second half. The Charge bench scored 20 of the team's 22 fourth quarter points, and the Toros' comeback attempt proved to be too little, too late. The Charge came into the game boasting the league's top scoring defense, allowing just 98.7 points per game, and improved their record to 14-3 this season when holding opponents under 100 points.
Arinze Onuaku notched his seventh double-double of the year with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and a season-high 16 rebounds with two steals in 21 minutes off the bench. Newly minted as a 2014 NBA D-League All-Star, Jones poured in a game-high 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting with eight boards and two steals in 30 minutes. Cleveland Cavaliers assignment Sergey Karasev added 15 points, six assists and a steal in 36 minutes. The Charge surrendered a new season-low with eight turnovers on the night, while forcing 18 Austin miscues resulting in 20 points.
The Toros' Courtney Fells netted 16 points with five rebounds and five assists in 41 minutes. Jonathan Simmons came off the bench to supply 18 points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes. Jazwyn Cowan contributed a double-double of 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting with 13 rebounds in 29 minutes, while Josh Howard posted a double-double of his own with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes.

Sometimes when you see injuries or lack of personnel, you tend to slack off and I thought our guys did the right thing and kept the pressure on them all night. I thought it was a great team win. (On getting up for a team that is facing injuries): "It doesn't take that much. We know the goal we had to accomplish. We see every team as a potential loss, so we have to treat it like that.
