Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - Springfield Cardinals 1B Chandler Redmond quite literally swung himself into the record books on Wednesday night in Amarillo, becoming just the second known player in professional baseball history to hit for the Home Run Cycle. The historic feat includes hitting a solo home run, a two-run homer, a three-run home run and a grand slam in the same game.

While the feat has never been done in Major League Baseball, the only other known Home Run Cycle in professional baseball history was accomplished by former St. Louis farmhand Tyrone Horne of the Arkansas Travelers on July 27, 1998, when Arkansas was the Double-A and Texas League affiliate of the Cardinals.

Amazingly, Redmond hit his four home runs across four consecutive innings on Wednesday, starting with his two-run shot in the 5th, his grand slam in the 6th, a solo home run in the 7th and the three-run blast in the 8th to complete the Home Run Cycle.

Redmond became the first-ever Springfield Cardinal to hit four home runs in one game, while also setting the team's all-time single game records with 11 RBIs and 17 total bases. He started the night with an RBI single in the 1st inning, also matching a team record with five total hits in the game (5x6).

The Cardinals also set all-time team records with eight home runs and 21 total runs in the game, blowing out the Amarillo Sod Poodles, 21-4, at Hodgetown.

On the season, Redmond is batting .242 with 17 home runs and 61 RBIs in 73 games. The slugger was selected by St. Louis in the 32nd round of the 2019 draft out of Gardner-Webb University, where he set the school record in 2019 for single-season (18) and career (50) home runs.
