Midland RockHounds News Release
The 2015 RockHounds have won more games (86) than any team in franchise history. Win # 86 also gave the club the opportunity to do what no other in 44 years of the Cubs, Angels & 'Hounds has been able to do - - - capture two consecutive Texas League championships.
In a series between the league's top two clubs ... and in one of the two best division series match-ups since the league went to the half-season format in 1977 ... the RockHounds defeated the Corpus Christi Hooks, 4-1, Saturday night at Security Bank Ballpark. The win gave the 'Hounds a 3-games-to-1 series victory (over an outstanding Corpus Christi team) and the opportunity to defend its league championship.
The 'Hounds and Northwest Arkansas will meet in the Texas League Championship Series. The best-of-five series opens Tuesday night at Security Bank Ballpark, with games one and two to be played at "Rocky Town" (see below).
The RockHounds backed an outstanding start from Jake Sanchez with a 4-0 lead built on three swings - - - a solo home run from Ryon Healy in the second, Matt Olson's two-run shot in the third and Jaycob Brugman's second home run in as many nights, a solo drive to right.
Sanchez went seven innings, allowing just one run (earned) on six hits, with no walks and six strikeouts. He pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fourth and pitched a shutout into the seventh, when Jio Mier's RBI double drove in the Hooks' only run.
Corpus then loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but Brendan McCurry ended the threat, striking out Jack Mayfield and Conrad Gregor ... on six pitches. McCurry allowed a leadoff single in the ninth before retiring the next three batters, sending the 'Hounds to the title series.
