Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
MIDLAND - The RockHounds parlayed three home runs and a strong start by Jake Sanchez into a 4-1 victory over the Hooks Saturday night at Security Bank Ballpark. The triumph advances Midland to the 2015 Texas League Championship Series.
Ryon Healy's lead-off blast in the second started the scoring against 19-year-old Francis Martes. A trio of one-out singles loaded the bases for the home club. Martes utilized a pair of punchouts to end the inning.
With two away in the third, Matt Olson hit a two-run shot to left field for a 3-0 RockHounds advantage.
The fourth inning witnessed another Midland round-tripper. Jaycob Brugman's poke to right was his second home run in as many nights, making the score 4-0.
Michael Freeman relieved Martes in the fifth and hurled two scoreless innings. Edison Frias blanked the Hounds over the final two frames, striking out four against one walk.
Corpus Christi managed a run against Sanchez in the seventh. Alfredo Gonzalez notched a two-out single and scored on Jio Mier's double to left-center.
Sanchez earned the victory, stranding six over seven innings of work. He struck out five and did not issue a walk.
The Hooks manufactured a prime scoring chance in the eighth, loading the bases thanks to two singles and a walk from Kris Hall. Midland closer Brendan McCurry struck out the next two hitters to end the inning.
Gonzalez's lead-off single in the ninth was all Corpus Christi could muster against McCurry.
The Hounds now take aim at Northwest Arkansas. Midland is bidding to become the sixth Texas League club to win back-to-back titles since 1940.
