San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2004) - Former Fresno State University standout receiver RODNEY WRIGHT has inked a deal to play with the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, announced general manager Terry Malley.

A versatile utility player in his four years with the Bulldogs, Wright (5-9, 180) was used as a kickoff and punt return specialist and occasionally ran the ball. He was the favorite target of quarterback David Carr during the 2001 season catching a school single-season record 104 passes while earning second-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors.

A Bakersfield, Calif. native, Wright ended his collegiate career with one of the finest performances in bowl game history when he caught 13 passes for 299 yards and a pair of scores against Michigan State in the 2001 Silicon Valley Football Classic.

Wright left FSU as the school's all-time leader in receptions (222) and ranked second in receiving yards (3,274).

A seventh-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2002, Wright spent much of that season on the team's practice squad. He also spent time in the Canadian Football League with the B.C. Lions.

The signing of Wright brings the number of players under contract for the 2005 season to 34.

The SaberCats begin defense of their Arena Football League title at Tampa Bay on Saturday, January 29 and play their 11th home opener on Saturday, February 5 against the Las Vegas Gladiators at HP Pavilion.

Season and group tickets for the 2005 season are available by contacting a sales representative at (408) 573-5577. Individual game tickets are set to go on sale in mid December and can be purchased through any Northern California TicketMaster outlet or the HP Pavilion box office.
