Springfield Cardinals News Release
The defending World Champion St. Louis Cardinals open the 2007 season on Sunday night at Busch Stadium, as they take on the New York Mets in a rematch of last year's NLCS. Chris Carpenter will make the start for the Cards, while the defending NL East Champions send lefty Tom Glavine to the mound. Game time from Busch Stadium is scheduled for 7:05. The game can be seen on ESPN2 and heard locally in Springfield on KTXR 101.3 FM.
The Cards will have one last tune up before Sunday's Opening Game at Busch Stadium, as they take on the Cleveland Indians in the first-ever Civil Rights game later today. The contest, which will honor the civil rights movement, will take place at Autozone Park in Memphis at 4:30. The game can be seen live on ESPN.
Cardinals Rough Up Former Springfield Hurler
The St. Louis Cardinals got a tie-breaking, eighth-inning grand slam from Gary Bennett in a 6-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds last night. Bennett's homer, a line drive to left field off of former Springfield reliever Andy Cavazos, capped a six-run comeback by St. Louis.
The game was loaded with former Springfield Cardinals, as Blake Hawksworth held the St. Louis offense scoreless over five innings. Former Springfield outfielder Nick Stavinoha had two hits and a run scored to lead the Memphis offense. Travis Hanson, Brendan Ryan, Rick Ankiel and Rico Washington all collected hits for Memphis.
