Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - OF Steve Brown hit his 10th home run of the season and OF Brian Portelli collected his second on Fireworks night at RCGT Park. The power hitting led the Champions to a convincing 6-2 win over the Rockland Boulders.
Champions manager Hal Lanier was impressed with starter RHP Austin Chrismon, who strung together another impressive start.
"He was really good tonight," said Lanier. "He got into trouble early, and got out of it. He gave us some quality innings, only giving up a couple runs and that was about it."
Lanier said the long ball told the game's story, and they came early in the game. The Champions scored all their runs in the first five innings, chasing LHP Brad Schaenzer early. Schaenzar allowed seven hits, six runs (five earned) over four innings. His record drops to 1-3.
Chrismon pitched seven strong innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out three and walking two. The right-hander hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last four outings. He improves to 8-8 on the season.
OF Mike Montville crushed his 14th home run of the season as he gets closer to the team lead in RBI. With 46, he trails INF Cody Regis by only six. INF Conrad Gregor and INF Jared McDonald each finished with two hits in the losing effort.
RHP Jake Hale will be on the mound tomorrow as Ottawa looks to take the series. First pitch flies at 1:30 p.m. Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
