Mississippi RiverKings News Release

The Noah's Gift Memorial 5K Run-Walk-Skate and Challenge Games on Oct. 26 features not simply the opportunity to run, walk or skate, but also the chance to challenge your friends - and yourself - to reach a personal record.

Athletes and enthusiasts alike can test their skills on the 5K course, the rock climbing wall, obstacle course set up by trainers from DeSoto Athletic Club, and the RiverKings' hockey shooting skills "Slapshot" game.

Folks who just want to relax and enjoy the post-race festivities can buy tickets to win a tandem jump skydiving experience from West Tennessee Skydiving, other raffle prizes from local businesses, or just enjoy the music and fun. Registered participants will enjoy free food and drinks and can enter contests like "Best Dressed" for individuals and teams.

Featured activities include: performances from DeSoto Family Theatre; anti-bullying skits by The Fur Circus mascots; an art contest with a chance for two lucky youngsters to win scholarships to The DeSoto Arts Council's Summer Arts Camp; ConXion gymnastics' mobile gym; and a Bounce House from DeSoto Bounce. The RiverKings Hockey mascots and players will also make an appearance at the race.

"October 26 is National "˜Make A Difference Day,' and what better way to make a difference than to challenge a friend to do something that is fun, good for you, and good for kids in your community?" Noah's Gift 5K Coordinator Glenda Gurley said.

"Noah would have loved the challenge of pushing himself to the absolute limit. But he would also have wanted everyone who enters to be able to participate in the race in some way, and this event has something for everyone. Everybody who wants to participate can find something fun at the NG5K."

The Noah's Gift 5K benefits the Noah's Gift endowment fund at The Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. It was established to inspire and reward deserving young people ages 13-19 with the gift of an extraordinary experience that was of interest to 16-year old Noah Costa at the time of his death.
