Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the resignation of Chief Financial Officer Brian Kelley. Kelley is leaving Bridgeport to become the new general manager of the East Coast Hockey League's Louisiana IceGators.
"Brian is an extraordinary, multi-talented young man. If anyone can rebuild that franchise, it's him," said Sound Tigers Founder and President Roy Boe. "We will obviously miss him very much, but we wish him the best of luck."
"While I am very excited about the challenge of my new position and about the new relationships that will develop in Lafayette, I am leaving behind a group of people that have become very important to me and my family," said Kelley. "I can not say enough about how much I will miss working side-by-side with Roy, he has been as generous of an owner as I have ever been associated with, and I wish Roy, Betty and Todd Boe and the entire staff all the best."
Kelley was among the first Sound Tigers' employees hired by Boe in 2000. In addition to handling the team's finances, he acted as the Sound Tigers' liaison with the Islanders and Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard management group while overseeing game-night and communications operations. Kelley spent the previous two years, 1998-2000, serving as general manager of the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves who won the League's 1998-99 Kelly Cup Championship. From 1996-98, he served as the director of business operations for the ECHL's Hampton Roads Admirals who won the 1997-98 Kelly Cup Championship. Kelly graduated with a degree in Finance from the University of Notre Dame in 1992 and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Kelley will split his time between Bridgeport and Louisiana through the end of June at which point he will assume his duties with the IceGators on a full-time basis. A search for his replacement has already begun. Kelley and his wife, Mary, have two children: Ryan and Katie.
