Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The most exciting and dynamic special teams player in the country, RB/KR Dominique Dorsey, has been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. In 23 games as an Argo, Dorsey has now earned the weekly award an incredible eight times - averaging a nomination every 2.8 games!
Arguably the best special teams player in the CFL, the 2007 East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player charged to 246 yards combined yards in the first half alone. He finished with 265 combined yards (6 for 25 yards rushing, 2 for 105 yards receiving, 5 for 61 yards punt returns, 2 for 74 kickoff returns) - the second-highest single-game total of his career. As he's done all season long, Dorsey consistently put the Argos offence in outstanding field position. He returned the opening kickoff 57 yards to Hamilton's 47-yard line which resulted in a Jamal Robertson touchdown. In the second quarter, the Ticats dared to punt from their own 22-yard line, Dorsey picked up the ball and raced 48 yards to put his offence on Hamilton's 25-yard line; two plays later Joseph connected with Bruce for another major.
Dorsey was also one of the best offensive players on the field. In addition to recording the first 100+ yard game on offence of his CFL career, he also turned-in the longest pass reception of his career racing for 81 yards on a short dump pass at Toronto's 4-yard line.
Through nine games, Dorsey is first in the CFL for most combined yards with 1,854. He's averaging 206.0 combined yards/game and is on pace to accumulate nearly 3,708 total yards this season. If he continues at this pace, he'll accumulate the third-highest single-season combined yards total in CFL history and the second-highest total in club history.
The Argonauts take on the Alouettes in Montreal this Sunday, kickoff at 1:00 p.m. The Boatmen will then turn back the clock when they return home to take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Rogers Centre on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. Both teams will wear retro 1950s-style uniforms, designed by Reebok, and the Argos will pay tribute to the 1950 Grey Cup champion Mud Bowl team.
The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, celebrating their 135th anniversary in 2008. As Toronto's #1 community team through player involvement, community programs and The Argos Foundation, the Toronto Argonauts, a member of the Canadian Football League (CFL), have 15 Grey Cup championships to their credit.
