CFL Ambassador Mike Wadsworth Remembered
April 28, 2004 - Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Toronto, On â Tom Wright, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League today offered condolences on behalf of the CFL and its Board of Governors at the news of the passing of Mike Wadsworth. Mr. Wadsworth had a long and illustrious relationship with the Canadian Football League as a player, broadcaster and football administrator.
"We are saddened by the loss of Mr. Wadsworth, who has been an exceptional ambassador and good friend of this Canadian league. Mr. Wadsworth's contributions to the CFL were evident in his football excellence both on and off the field, and through his ongoing commitment and passion to the integrity of our game," said Commissioner Tom Wright.
A graduate of Notre Dame in the 1960's out of Toronto's downtown De La Salle High School, Wadsworth came to the CFL's Toronto Argonauts in 1966, where he was the Canadian rookie-of-the-year in the Eastern Conference. An aggressive defensive tackle, he earned an all-star selection in 1968 and was a member of several great Argo teams. He later became the Athletic Director at his alma mater Notre Dame University in South Bend Indiana. Wadsworth also served as a colour analyst on CTV's coverage of CFL football.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced as yet.
