
2004 Ottawa Renegades Draft Notes

Ottawa Renegades News Release
· 47th overall is the lowest position in the draft in which the Renegades have chosen. Quarterback Tyler Paopao, son of head coach Joe Paopao, had been the lowest-ranked draft pick in Renegades history, chosen 46th overall in 2002.
· Ibrahim Khan and David Azzi are the second and third players from Ottawa chosen by the Renegades in draft history. The only other Ottawa product chosen by the Renegades in draft history was punter Pat Fleming of Kanata in 2002.
· For the third straight year, the Renegades used its first pick of the draft to select an offensive lineman. Alexandre Gauthier (Laval) went first overall in 2002, offensive tackle Trevor Kine of New Mexico State went in the second round (13th overall) with Ottawa's first pick in 2003. This year, it's offensive lineman Ibrahim Khan from Simon Fraser.
· David Azzi is the second player from the University of Ottawa selected by the Renegades in the franchise's draft history. The club selected Todd Seely, a Gee-Gees linebacker, during the sixth round of the 2003 draft.
· Renegades receiver Darryl Ray, also an Ottawa native, was the final player chosen during the 2002 draft. Ray was selected 54th overall in the sixth round by Toronto.
· Azzi is the highest pick in the Canadian College Draft from the University of Ottawa since DB Scott Gordon was taken in the second round, 18th overall, by Calgary in 2002. Azzi is also the first Gee-Gees player to be selected in the first round of the draft since Ibrahim Tounkara was taken by Calgary in 2001.
· With the selection of Christian Liebl-Coté, the Renegades have a strong Francophone presence on the offensive line. Current Renegades offensive linemen Alexandre Gauthier (village of Maria in the Gaspé region) and David De La Perralle (Montreal) are from Quebec. Ottawa signed offensive lineman Jean-François Roy from Quebec City on April 13. The Renegades also added defensive tackle / long snapper L. P. Ladouceur, of Pointe-Claire, QC, with the team's fourth-round selection.
· Pronounciation of third-round selection Shaun Suisham: SWEE-shum. Holds Bowling Green record with 157 successful extra points ... Made 14 of 24 field goals in 2003 (longest 47, a career high) ... Has made 37 of 46 field goals in three years at Bowling Green.
· Matt Kirk of Kingston, ON, drafted in the fifth round by the Renegades, is the first player from Queen's University taken by the Renegades in draft history.
