CFB Shilo Family Wins Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest

Brandon, MB. - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that the Kyle, Nicole Roux and family of Canadian Forces Base Shilo has been chosen this year's winner of The Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest.

The Roux family was chosen Friday from a long list of entries received at BDO Fan Services (during Wheat Kings' home games) or online.

For winning the contest, members of the Wheat Kings will be visiting the Roux' backyard rink on Tuesday, March 3rd.

In addition to having the opportunity to meet members of the WHL team in a backyard game of shinny, the family will receive treats and prizes from The Home Depot.

The Roux family has three children - 3-year old Grace, five year old Jordyn and 7-year old Oliver, who currently skates with the Shilo Novice Sentinels.

Kyle Roux, who is originally from Nanaimo, B.C., currently serves as Master Corporal of 2PPCLI and has been stationed at CFB Shilo for the past 7 �1/2 years.

This year's winning entry is a traditional backyard rink that was built last fall and has been maintained through the winter.

A big fan of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens, Kyle admits that his three children are fans of both the Wheat Kings and Winnipeg Jets.

The family was in attendance at the game Friday night, when the winning entry was announced.

Meanwhile in other news, the Wheat Kings will continue a busy three-in-three weekend Saturday night when they host the defending champion Prince Albert Raiders.
