Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(VISALIA, CA) - A dominant pitching performance by Leandro Cespedes was backed up by the Lancaster offense Wednesday night in Visalia. Cespedes hurled seven shutout innings and the Lancaster hitters added five insurance runs in the ninth inning as the JetHawks shut out the Rawhide 7-0. It is the third shutout for the JetHawks this season as they snap a four-game losing skid.
Cespedes was consistently in control throughout his season-high seven innings. He allowed only three hits and two walks while setting a new season-high with eight strikeouts. Mike Modica added two shutout innings out of the bullpen to earn his second save of the year.
The scoring started in the third inning. Federico Hernandez singled and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Jay Austin. Hernandez was also involved in the second run. Brandon Barnes opened the seventh inning with a double before Hernandez doubled him home.
The game was close until the ninth. Lee Cruz and Barnes opened with infield singles and Hernandez was intentionally walked to load the bases. Barry Butera took advantage by lining a two-run double to center field. Brandon Wikoff and Austin added RBI singles as the JetHawks sent ten men to the plate and scored five times.
The JetHawks have a chance to win the series with a win Thursday night in Visalia. Ross Seaton (4-10) will pitch for the JetHawks against Taylor Sinclair (6-4) of the Rawhide. The game begins at 7:05 and will be broadcast live online at JetHawks.com/CSN and on radio at NewsTalk 1380. The Pre-Game Show begins at 6:50.
