
Central Oregon Natives lead Bend Elks to 4-2 victory over Cowlitz Black Bears

Bend, OR - Crook County High School Graduate Zach Close delivered a 2 run single in the bottom of the 3rd inning to score Grant Newton and Curtis Wildung as the Elks won for the third straight night, defeating the Kitsap Blue Jackets 4-2.
Kevin Hamann from Summit High School got the start and the victory on the evening for the Elks, throwing 5 scoreless innings, giving up 3 hits and striking out three. Eric Melbostad followed in the 6th inning and gave up a pair of runs, the Elks bullpen took care of business the rest of the way as David Murrillo and Nick Highberger combined to go the final 3 innings, allowing only one base runner and striking out three as Highberger picked up his 2nd save of the 2013 summer.
Curtis Wildung went 2-3 with an RBI double, Grant Newton went 1-4 with a run, and Keach Ballard went 2-4 as he picked up his first RBI for Bend, who improved to 7-3 to open up the year.
