Strong group pitching effort leads Bells to 3-1 win over the Everett Merchants

The Bellingham Bells would turn to a quintet of pitchers on Saturday night to topple the Everett Merchants by a score of 3-1 at Joe Martin Field.

Bells manager Gary Hatch would work pitchers Chris Van Dyke, Matt Bower, Chase Radan, and Jacob Phillips for two innings each, while Ian Buckles would earn the save for his scoreless ninth inning. Radan would pick up the win for Bellingham.

On the defensive side of things, Alex Calbick would shine at first base, saving two would have been Merchants hits in the first and fifth innings.

Everett picked up their lone run to give them the early lead in the third inning on a Bells error, scoring Ben Ruff on the play.

The Bells would answer in the fifth inning when Riley Smith scored from third after Merchants catcher Cordin Duffy had his throw to second base go into center field.

Bellingham then tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles by RJ Ybarra and Chris Beall.

Phillips would then enter the game to pitch for the Bells and throw two scoreless frames before handing the ball to Buckles to lock down the win for Bellingham.

Next up for the Bells will be a three game series with the Victoria HarbourCats starting on Tuesday night at Joe Martin Field. All three games between the two teams will begin at 7:05 with all the action on bellinghambells.com where Mike Weisman will be on the call.
