MUSKEGON, MI.--- Having captured the IHL Huber Trophy Regular Season Championship in the final week of the 2009-10 IHL season, the first place finishing Muskegon Lumberjacks also have been the recipients of more individual accolades and plaudits as a direct result of their title timber season and magnificent 76(51-20-5) mark for 107-points.
On this date, the Lumberjacks, in conjunction with the International Hockey League, have announced that goaltender SEBASTIEN CENTOMO has been acclaimed the MEIJER / IHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK for the final week of the regular season, the week of April 12th through April 18th.
CENTOMO, 29, has been a key, major spoke in the high-tech, high-voltage wheel of the Lumberjacks since the inception of the current campaign. The 29-year old, 9-year pro has been a veritable workhorse in becoming one of the more celebrated and decorated human puck detours in the league.
The past week, he made his lone appearance become another prominent, permanent page in the storied franchise 50-years of pro hockey history. The past Friday night, the former Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Year was at the top of his game, seemingly sprouting rubber limbs on demand with his puck-stopping stupendo as he spurred his team to the clinching of the hallowed Huber Trophy crown with a 30-saves' masterpiece in a 2-0 shutout victory at Dayton against the Gems the past Friday night. It was the Laval, PQ native's league-high fourth shutout and the Lumberjacks collective team sixth zero inflicted upon their adversaries this season.
Formerly a member of the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs' organization, the 6-1, 196lb masked mystic marvel has flashed the leather larceny all season long as a major principal paramount to Muskegon's in-season supremacy in '09-10. In the `Jacks inexorable ascension to Huber Trophy grandeur, he authored a masterful mark of 9(6-1-2) in his last 9-starts. On home ice, Centomo's dominance was even more pronounced, climaxing the campaign with a crescendo through an undefeated record of 11(10-0-1) in his last 11-decisions.
For the season, itself, the Lumberjacks architect of puck prevention attention paced the league with 28-victories while his 2.54 GAA ranked as third best in the circuit.
In the Lumberjacks annual Awards Night on the regular season home finale back on April 10th, Centomo was the recipient of the Lumberjacks "Great Saves" Award for this season.
