Raffaele D'Orso Named IHL Rookie Of The Week
April 19, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks are proud to announce that rookie goaltender Raffaele D'Orso has been named IHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 18. D'Orso made his professional debut in Port Huron's regular season finale Sunday.
The 21-year-old Montreal native stopped 39 of 40 shots, including the first 27 shots he faced, in the Icehawks' 4-1 victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder Sunday at McMorran Arena. The rookie was named the game's first star for his efforts.
D'Orso was signed last week after Adam Russo was waived to appear in the upcoming World Championships for the Italian national team. The goalie came over from the Val-d'Or Foreurs of the QMJHL, after their season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs.
This marks the ninth time an Icehawks rookie has won a weekly award from the IHL this season. Before D'Orso's stellar debut, teammate Mickael Bedard was presented with his award for 2009-10 Rookie of the Year.
The Icehawks begin their march to the Turner Cup this Thursday when they travel to Fort Wayne for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the two-time defending champion Komets. Port Huron will host game two Saturday at 7:30 p.m. A free pre-game tailgate party will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of McMorran Arena, including free food, beverages and entertainment. The first 1000 fans at the game will receive a playoff rally towel courtesy of University of Michigan-Flint, and Maverick, a live hawk will be on hand for photo opportunities.
