
IHL Awards Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-Seven

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Flint center Bryan Smolinski has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron goaltender Raffaele D'Orso has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Muskegon goaltender Sebastien Centomo has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 18th, 2010.
Smolinski finished the week posting a total of five points, scoring one goal and dishing out four assists. He also was plus-three in three games played by the Generals during week 27. He had a four -point night in Friday's must-win game against Bloomington, notching in his only goal this week and knocking out three assists. He added another assist in the Generals final game of the regular season in their 2-1 loss in Fort Wayne. The 38-year-old Toledo, Ohio native has registered 49 points (24 goals, 25 assists) in 48 games played, which rank him fifth on the Generals roster in scoring.
Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center Jon Booras, Dayton forward Corey Couturier, Fort Wayne center Colin Chaulk, Muskegon center Todd Robinson, Port Huron defenseman Daniel Tetrault and Quad City center Juris Stals.
D'Orso started his first professional game Sunday against Bloomington after joining the Icehawks last Wednesday. He stopped the first 27 shots he faced and turned away 39 of 40 overall in the contest, helping propel the Icehawks to a 4-1 win over the PrairieThunder. He finished his first pro win with a .975 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average. The 21-year-old Montreal, Quebec native spent the 2009-10 season with the Val-d'Or Foreurs of the QMJHL.
Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Cole Ruwe, Dayton forward Mike Vaskivuo, Flint forward John Mori, Fort Wayne center Justin Hodgman, Muskegon goaltender Matt Lundin and Quad City goaltender Jerad Kaufmann.
Centomo completed the final week of the regular season posting a 1-0-0-0 record, earning a shutout in his only appearance this week. He turned aside all 30 shots he faced from Dayton Friday, pushing the Lumberjacks to win the Huber Trophy as regular season champions. It was Centomo's league- leading fourth shutout of the season. He finished the season with a 28-10-1-3 record for the Lumberjacks in 46 appearances. The 29-year-old Laval, Quebec native led all IHL goaltenders in wins (28) and finished third in goals against average (2.54).
Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Andrew Martin, Dayton's Derek MacIntyre, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Tim Haun, Port Huron's Raffaele D'Orso and Quad City's Kyle Jones.
