CD Olimpia Reduced to 17 Players for Leg 1 Trip to Hamilton

Honduran outfit CD Olimpia will reportedly be without a number of key players for their upcoming CONCACAF League bout against Canadian Premier League side Forge FC, as visa issues coupled with 2019 Pan-Am obligations have left manager Pedro Troglio's side shorthanded for the first leg in Hamilton (Thursday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. ET, available on TSN2).

In particular, Olimpia will be without key defenders Maylor Nuñez and Jonathan Paz, who had failed to confirm their visas and cannot travel to Canada, as such.

Olimpia will also be without forwards Eddie Hernandez and Jerry Bengtson, though only the former was likely to earn a nod against Forge FC, if previous Olimpia matches are any indication.

Further reducing Troglio's ranks is Honduras' Under-23 national team obligations, as the team is currently in Lima, Peru, participating in the 2019 Pan American Games. It leaves Olimpia without young talents Alex Güity, Jorge Alvarez, Carlos Pineda, Rembrandt Flores, Alejandro Reyes, and Elvin Casildo, thus giving Troglio about 17 players to choose from and travel with for the first leg.

However, Olimpia will likely be boosted with the return of these players for the second leg, which is set to take place at Estadio Nacional in Honduras on Aug. 29.
