
CBL names players of the month
August 1, 2005 - Central Baseball League (Central League) News Release
Edinburg INF Kip Harkrider and Fort Worth LHP Thomas Hendricks were named the Slam Baseball Central League batter of the month and pitcher of the month, respectively for July.
Harkrider has hit .402 for July, with 41 hits in 102 at-bats. He's notched 14 doubles, three triples, a homer and 15 RBIs in that span. His slugging percentage is .627 and he reached base at a .450 pace for the month. Harkrider scored 24 runs in the Roadrunners' 25 July games.
Harkrider, 29, was a three-time All-Conference shortstop for the University of Texas from 1995-1997. He spent four seasons in the Dodgers' organization after college, where he hit .237 in 251 games split between Savannah, Vero Beach and San Antonio. In 2003 he joined the Alexandria Aces of the Central League, where he his .316 in 37 games. This season he's hitting .349 for Edinburg with a homer and 18 RBIs, and he's struck out only 14 times in 146 at-bats.
Hendricks went 5-0 in July for the Cats with a 2.43 ERA in 40.2 innings pitched. He struck out 25 batters against only nine walks. Fort Worth has followed his lead to a 20-9 record in the second half, good for first place in the league.
Hendricks, 24, led Henderson State University (Div. II) in wins, complete games, innings, strikeouts and ERA in 2003. After college, he played for Springfield/Ozark in 2003 before spending a year out of baseball in 2004. The Arkansas native joined Fort Worth in 2005, where he has gone 6-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 74.2 innings pitched.
