Cavalry FC News Release
Calgary, AB - Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League has signed 20 year old Canadian-English forward, Gareth Smith-Doyle, on a multi-year contract.
Smith-Doyle joins Cavalry FC as a U21 player while the club continues to create a pathway for young, Canadian players to have the opportunity to develop in a professional environment. Calgary born and raised; Smith-Doyle played his youth career at Calgary Foothills Soccer Club in the Calgary Minor Soccer Association. He later went on to represent the University of Calgary, where he made ten appearances during the 2021 season. The forward represented Cavalry's U20 side under the guidance of Jay Wheeldon in the Alberta Major Soccer League. Furthermore, he became the clubs top goal scorer after scoring nine goals in nine appearances for the side.
"Gareth is a traditional centre forward, who is able to play well with his back to goal or down the sides of the opposition defenders." Shares Cavalry FC Head Coach and General Manager, Tommy Wheeldon Jr. "He has terrific pace and has a very good goal scoring record at each level he's played at. We look forward to working with him to help him transfer that ability over into the professional level."
"It's a dream come true to sign my first professional contract with such a great club like Cavalry." Says Smith-Doyle. "I'm excited to begin my career as a footballer and showcase my talents on the pitch. I'm very grateful for my family, friends, and coaches who helped me get to where I am today."
