Cavaliers assign Jones to Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 23, 2007 - The Cleveland Cavaliers have assigned forward/center Dwayne Jones to the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. The Thunderbirds are the D-League Affiliate for the Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns.

Jones has played in four games for the Cavaliers this season and has grabbed six rebounds in 18 total minutes. He was acquired by the Cavaliers on Oct. 13 from Boston.

The St Joseph's product played in 26 games last season with the Florida Flame of the D-League while on assignment from the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Celtics. He led the NBA's minor league in rebounds per game (11.7) and offensive rebounds per game (4.5) while ranking second in blocks per game (2.04) to go along with 8.9 points in 31.1 minutes.

Jones is the 23rd NBA player assigned to a D-League affiliate this season. Twenty-six (26) NBA teams have designated 51 players to D-League affiliates since the start of the 2005-06 season.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Anaheim Arsenal (Calif.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Bakersfield Jam (Calif.), Colorado 14ers (Broomfield), Dakota Wizards (Bismarck, N.D.), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Idaho Stampede (Boise), Los Angeles D-Fenders, Sioux Falls Skyforce (S.D.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.). Expansion teams in Orem, Utah, the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and Des Moines, Iowa have also been announced for the 2007-08 season.
