Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release

The Border Cats extended their winning streak to three games Monday night as they outlasted the Mankato MoonDogs 3-2 in 10 innings at Subway Field. Jason Volser (Northeastern University) had the walk-off game winning hit as he banged a single to right field with two outs to score Ty Stetson (Murray State University). Stetson had opened the bottom of the 10th inning with a single and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. The Cats trailed 1-0 on a home run by Mankato's Chase Simpson, but tied the game in the 5th inning. Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University) picked up Thunder Bay's first hit of the night against Mankato starter Rob Cerfoilo and the Cats third baseman would later score on an RBI single by Cory Kay (Harper College). The Cats took a 2-1 lead in the last of the 6th as Michael Foster (Northeastern University) doubled and scored one out later on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ryan Casillas (Southern Illinois University). The MoonDogs plated an unearned run in the 7th inning to tie the score 2-2.

Chad Mayle (Western Michigan University) delivered the first quality start of the season for Thunder Bay. The righthander pitched seven innings and allowed only two hits and one earned run. Mayle walked two and struck out three. Daniel Stoney (Madonna University) picked up the win in relief to even his record at 1-1. Stoney went three shutout innings, allowing three hits, while striking out a pair.

The Cats and MoonDogs wrap up their two-game series this morning with a special school day game starting at 11:05am. Lefthander Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) will make his debut on the mound for Thunder Bay.
