ABERDEEN, MD-The Tri-City ValleyCats beat the Aberdeen IronBirds 3-0 thanks to the outstanding pitching of Ronnie Martinez and timely hitting of Francisco Carballo. Martinez allowed just one hit in five innings pitched and Francisco Carballo drove in two of the three ValleyCats runs.

The ValleyCats scored a run in the fourth inning. Hunter Pence reached on an error by the third baseman Rob Marconi. Then Francisco Caraballo lashed a double to bring home Pence and a 1-0 ValleyCats lead.

Ronnie Martinez pitched five innings of scoreless baseball. Martinez's only hit came in the second inning when Levi Robinson lashed a single against him. Martinez walked none and struck out three in his five innings.

Casey Brown came in to pitch a scoreless sixth and seventh innings and Paul Estrada worked the eighth and ninth to pick up his eighth save.

The ValleyCats scored two insurance runs in the eight inning that was keyed by an Francisco Caraballo RBI single.

The ValleyCats now start their final regular season series tomorrow night against Oneonta. Game time is set for 7:00 and coverage begins at 6:40 on AM 1160 WABY and AM 900 WUAM as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
