Fort Worth Cats News Release
Abilene second baseman Eddie Browne singled in the eventual winning run in the ninth inning of the Prairie Dogs 2-1 defeat of the Fort Worth Cats on Friday night at LaGrave Field. The single was Browne's only hit of the game but proved to be an important one.
Designated hitter Nick Ochoa reached base on a one-out error by Scott Dalrymple and then advanced to third on two wild pitches from Fort Worth reliever Mace Thurman.
Abilene reliever David Slovack picked up the win in his one pitch relief for starter Adam Rowe. Slovack got left fielder Chad Gabriel to ground into a double play to end the eighth inning.
Rowe threw 7 1/3 innings and allowed Fort Worth's only run on five hits. Rowe struck out eight and did not walk a single batter.
Cats' starter Trevor Harden set a season record for Fort Worth with eight innings of work in the game. Harden allowed one run on four hits and struck out seven batters. Thurman picked up the loss after giving up the RBI single to Browne in the ninth.
The Prairie Dogs got on top early after another RBI single from right fielder Joe Weik. The single was also Weik's only hit of the game.
The Cats were able to tie the game in the fourth after left fielder Chad Gabriel reached base on a lead-off single and advanced to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch from Rowe. Designated hitter Shelby Ford, who just returned to the lineup from a hamstring injury, singled in Gabriel. Unfortunately, the Cats could not get any more runners across the plate.
Abilene's record improves to 9-12 and they still sit at fifth place in the South Division of the North American League. Fort Worth's record falls to 14-7 and now only hold a one game lead over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.
The Cats and Prairie Dogs face off for game three of their four game weekend series Saturday night at 7:05 at LaGrave Field. You can purchase tickets online at fwcats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
