
Cats Down Montreal in Shootout

Moncton Wildcats News Release
The Moncton Wildcats defeated the Montreal Junior 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night at the Moncton Coliseum. In what was a match of two teams tied in the overall standings with 14 points apiece, the game did not disappoint. Daniel Petterrson and Brandon Gormley scored for the Wildcats. David Rose and Philippe Lefebvre replied for the Rocket. Shane Owen recorded the win for the Wildcats stopping 28 shots, while Jean-Francois Berube stopped 26 shots in the losing cause.
Montreal had the early jump in the first period are created the majority of the scoring chances early. The Wildcats were able to get their feet underneath them and produced the first goal of the game with 1:13 to go in the frame thanks to Pettersson. Shots in the first period were 10-8 in favor of Montreal.
The two teams continued to generate quality scoring chances in the second period, Rose got the loan goal of the period to tie the game at one heading into the final frame. Moncton had a slight 8-7 advantage in shots during the second period.
Gormley scored a powerplay goal 7:18 into the third period to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. For the final twelve minutes of the game Montreal tired everything to find an equalizer and finally got it when Lefebrve score with one minute remaining in the game. Shots in the third 13-7 in favor of the Junior.
The Wildcats carried the play in the overtime period and had a 5-0 shot advantage. The Cats were awarded a powerplay in the last two minutes of the game and thought they had won the game in the final seconds but it was determined that the buzzer had sounded before the puck crossed the line. The shootout was to follow.
The shootout saw a total of eight round and sixteen shooters. In the 8th round Gormley scored for the Wildcats and Owen denied Denis Kindl to win the game for the Wildcats. Final shots for the game were 30-28 in favor of the Junior. Montreal were 1 for 3 on the powerplay while Wildcats were successful on 1 of their seven powerplays.
Wildcats are back in action tomorrow when the travel to Halifax to take on the Mooseheads. Moncton returns home next weekend for their Pink in the Rink weekend. The Cats battle the Victoriaville Tigres Friday night at the Coliseum, game time is 7:30pm. On Sunday they face off against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at 4pm, at the Moncton Coliseum.
