Cats clobber Pensacola

The Cats pounded out a season-high 19 hits and T.J. Hendricks went 8 2/3 solid innings as Fort Worth dominated Pensacola 14-2 Wednesday night at LaGrave Field.

The win improves the Cats record to 7-3 in the second half and 37-20 overall on the season. Pensacola's record fell to 2-4 on the second half.

The Cats' offensive attack included a franchise-record nine doubles and two homers.

With the game scoreless going to the bottom of the third, the Cats scored three times on back-to-back run scoring doubles from Terrell Merriman and Tony Mota.

Fort Worth added four more in the sixth inning as John Allen doubled home a run before Jordan Foster hit a two-run homer, his third on the season.

The route continued in the sixth inning when Mota collected an RBI single and Carlos Adolfo belted his 13th homer of the season, a three-run shot to right, to put the Cats up 11-0. They tacked on three more runs in the eighth to make it 14-0.

The only Pelican runs came in the ninth inning when Larry Bethea hit a two-run home run to left, his 13th of the season.

T.J. Hendricks (2-1), who had a no-hitter through 4 2/3 innings, ended up allowing two runs on seven hits while stirking out four and walking one. It was Hendricks' second straight win.

Pelicans' starter Byron Batson (4-5) took the loss as he went 5 2/3 innings and allowed nine earned runs on 11 hits.

Game 2 of the series is on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Ryan Weems (6-2) will pitch for the Cats with Jeff Norris (4-1) going for Pensacola.
